Monday's Harvest

Monday's Harvest is kindly hosted by Daphne at Daphne's Dandelions and is a day to share what you have been harvesting/cooking from your garden or plot..........

Pretty happy with my first pickings of my first ever crop of Borlotti Beans.
They were planted just after Xmas quick to germinate but very slow growing, late Febuary i replanted them into my new garden plot watered them well with a little liquid feed and then left them.

Last week when doing a little weeding i noticed how healthy the plants were growing and then i noticed the pods............i was so excited............

There were only a few large ones but quite a lot of small ones coming along.

As there's only a couple I'm not to sure what to do with them now, peel them and then freeze the beans and then just wait until the next lot are ready to pick?

Advice most welcome.

Another first time crop i have been happily picking is Pak Choi

Don't know why i haven't planted this before its so easy to grow and tastes great in salads, stir-fry and soup.

Are you growing any first time crops?  Love to hear about them..............

Outdoor cooking.

Over the Easter break hubby and I planned to do nothing but relax as we have been working so hard on our renovations and both have tennis elbow, Bob in both elbows.
So we slept in ............ took the dogs for a walk..............watched a movie........
and then got bored......................

So he headed off to cut up firewood................................
And i got cooking............................

This year i have really enjoyed experimenting with pickling, a great way to use  the glut from the plot or produce from friends which included apples, corn and zucchini.

I also have an obsession with curry at present so i decided to use up my butternut pumpkin and the last of my red onions along with some zucchini and apples and made Indian Spiced Chutney.

Our new kitchen is installed except the
stove and yes the kitchen sink !!!    so I'm
still cooking on the front veranda  which is really
nice on a beautiful sunny day and the bonus is i can be in the garden and just check on whats cooking every now and then.

And i get to wave to the neighbors as they drive past........    not to sure what they think........

Friends dropped in ...............

Cups of tea...................

News to share.............

Laughter.................

I love to give my produce to friends to take home and enjoy.................

.....well i hope it tastes ok.

Monday's Harvest.

The last of the basil was harvested before the threat of an early frost, we have been enjoying beautiful sunny days of 27C and cold clear nights great for star-watching....................

This is my first ever batch of pesto made with my own garlic and my neighbour's olive oil . There was only enough to make one jar and I'm certainly going to make it last ...................... I even broke up pieces of bread and wiped the processor clean, yum!
Was delicious with spaghetti...................memories of Italy.............

Other greens harvested during the week were for the new girls on the block......... they join the older 3 girls in the flock.

Each day leaves from Tuscan Kale, Parsley and Dwarf curly Kale.

If this is dwarf kale I'd hate to see what giant kale looks like.

Monday's Harvest is hosted by Daphne at Daphne's Dandelions, drop by and see what others are harvesting around the globe.
