steamed and light in flavor which was surprising but quite nice.
The girls continue to lay eggs each day they don't seem to mind the constant rain and drizzle and I'm enjoying one each morning for breaky..................
I have one particularly smart hen who always is first to greet me when i visit the coop each morning,if I'm carrying a plastic bag with scraps she jumps up and pecks at the bag, if i move the water dish she's quick to look for any worms underneath.
One morning she was quick to sneak out the coop gate so I let her join me while i weeded the garden, as soon as I turned the soil or pulled a weed she swooped and got her worm.
After about and hour she headed off to sit beside the coop door to join her mates or brag about her morning tea.

Very nice looking broccoli! I've never tried that kind. I envy your fresh eggs, but we haven't had chickens for years. I don't think I'm up to them anymore!
ReplyDeleteThere are so many different types to try ! Sometimes I don't think I'm up to then either,especially when pouring rain and slipping around in the mud.

DeleteI imagine that the purple tones disappear when you cook romanesco broccoli but it is lovely to see such a shade of color in the garden. So love to hear tidbits about your girls. They sound like such characters!
ReplyDeleteI can't remember if it changed color now...... they did look good in the garden and now hoping for some side shoots.
DeleteLovely broccoli none of my cole crops did very well in spring so will be planting more for the fall and winter. I can't let my hens in the garden; it's just too crowded with plants and they would be into things they shouldn't so they have to wait for me to bring the weeds to them.
ReplyDeleteMost of my crops do better in the fall/winter as our summers are just to hot and dry. I can't let my girls out for long as they would destroy all my plants too !
